About Natalie King

Born in Utah and raised in Pennsylvania by a French father and Danish mother, I find that my work is a reflection of my constantly evolving sense of identity and the efforts I have made to resolve a confused upbringing.

I find at times I often sometimes contradict myself. I left the LDS Church after coming out as trans, swearing to never allow religious thought to dominate my identity, only to find myself drawn to the Episcopal Church six years later. Coming out as trans has itself been a process of reintegrating my feminine and masculine traits. I yearn to reconcile the paradoxes of my life, and photography has been my greatest tool to do so.

I am a bit very much all over the place as to what subjects I focus on, as well as when and how, and without formal training (BYU dropout ayooo) I am hard pressed to define myself with one style or medium. Simply put, I adore it all- and I feel comfortable letting my portfolio speak for itself regarding the times and seasons and the corresponding subjects I’ve immersed myself with.

Whether I am shooting an experimental film stock or breaking out my digital camera, be it at a concert, portrait session or wedding, you can always expect me to be consistent in at least one regard- my unwavering devotion to meet my subjects where they are, striving always to resolve the paradoxes presented by life through my lens.
